Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our media product uses various forms of current media conventions such as elements of cinematography and video editing. An example of our primary task that uses current media conventions would be a low angle camera shot of Louie holding the gun. However our development of this was changing the camera focus from Louie, to the front of the gun. So in our project we have used and also developed on regular media conventions to bring about a professional and creative finish.
Our video editing also included such conventions such as credits, camera shot changes and an opening soundtrack. However we have also developed on these aspects, such as including credits with changing camera shots. During these camera shot changes, the soundtrack was synced to it. So by ever bar or every other bar of music, the camera shot changed. This brought about a much more flowing finish to the film. Editing techniques such as matching on action was used consistently. This also made sure that the audiences attention was retained and our final project could be easily understood. Overall, this brought about a professional finish to our primary product.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

In comparison between our preliminary task and our primary task, many skills have been developed and learned throughout the task such as video editing and pre-production planning. The key video editing skills that have been developed are applying color balances to the recorded video, transitions and implementing sampled free soundtracks from various websites. This brought about a good execution of our project as well as a professional looking finish.
Pre-production planning also played a role within producing our primary task. This involved using documents such as risk assessment forms, call sheets, location release forms and location contracts rather than filming blindly without planning. This maintained a structure when executing the production of this primary task and allowed our group to work together to perform separate tasks.
